The bus will leave from Albyn Place at 1 pm with its arrival outside the Town House anticipated for approximately 1.50 pm.
An AFC spokesperson said that the day should be one to live long in the memory. “While for those of a certain age this used to be a fairly regular occurrence, there is a whole generation for whom this will be their first opportunity of experiencing what is always a fantastic occasion.
“A parade like this also provides several major logistical challenges and the Club appreciates the hard work that has been undertaken behind the scenes by a host of people to make tomorrow’s event happen. The Club would also like to record its thanks to Aberdeen City Council for enabling tomorrow’s celebrations to take place.”
Temporary traffic measures during Dons open-top bus parade
To ensure a safe environment for the open-top bus parade to celebrate the Dons League Cup success, a number of traffic restrictions will be in place in the city centre on Sunday [23 March].
Aberdeen City Council is working closely with Aberdeen Football Club, Police Scotland and other emergency services to deliver the event which is expected to see a large crowd of all ages, line the city’s main thoroughfare.
Dawn Schultz, City Events manager, Aberdeen City Council, said: “The priority for a large event like this is safety. We have made every effort to ensure that the parade on Union Street is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
“We would ask fans to enjoy the parade celebrations responsibly, check the information available in advance of the occasion regarding transportation, weather and timings and adhere to any advice and guidance provided by the stewarding team on the day.
“Above all, enjoy yourself and join with the City of Aberdeen in celebrating Aberdeen Football Club’s Scottish League Cup success.”
The team will make their way from Albyn Place at 1pm, along Union Street. The bus will stop outside the Town House at approximately 1.50pm.
The temporary traffic restrictions will be as follows:
From 12pm until 2pm Albyn Place will be closed from Albyn Grove to Alford Place. Alford Place will also be closed at this time.
Union Street will be closed between the Holburn Street and Union Terrace junctions from 12pm until 3pm.
From 12.30pm until 5pm the following roads will be closed:
? Union Street between Union Terrace and Castle Street;
? Castle Street;
? King Street from Castle Street to the East/West North Street junction;
? Market Street from Hadden Street to Union Street.
There will be no access to Union Street from any of its adjoining roads during the closure.
The roads will re-open once the parade has passed by and the crowds have dispersed. The prohibition of right turns from Union Street onto Bridge Street, and from King Street onto West North Street will be suspended once the roads have re-opened.
Parking restrictions will be in place on Albyn Place, St Catherine’s Wynd, and Marischal Street. A limited number of disabled parking spaces will be available on Marischal Street for blue badge holders. Entry will be via Regent Quay.
From 11am, the north side of the Castle Street footway from Aberdeen Sheriff Court to the junction with Broad Street will be closed to pedestrians.
The taxis ranks on Dee Street and Chapel Street will be closed from 12.30pm until 5pm. Other ranks will operate as normal.
Alternative bus routes will also be in operation from 12.30pm. Details will be displayed at the relevant bus shelters.
A disabled viewing area will be created at the junction of Castle Street and Marischal Street. Limited space is available and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
Medical and welfare facilities at the event will be provided by the Scottish Ambulance Service and the British Red Cross. The fixed medical points will be at Union Terrace and in the Town House, Broad Street. There will also be foot patrols during the parade.
