Dons goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov found himself on the losing side against St. Mirren in a game where chances were at a premium.

“It didn’t happen for us going forward today, because I always ask myself this question, ‘How many saves did the other goalkeeper make today?’ And in my memory, I don’t think he’s made any. So we need to look at that, how we can improve, because we had a lot of possession but we were not testing the goalkeeper. There’s something for us to analyse and see where we can improve.

“We came with a lot of pace and I felt like we hurt them at times but that final ball just wasn’t happening for us and they defended really well. We just didn’t find that gap and there’s definitely a lesson to be learned from this game going forward.

“It’s a very, very frustrating one because they have a specific style of play, they use long balls, they play off second balls and I felt we dealt with them quite well, but the goal was a double deflection off Mats’ head that lands nicely with the striker and he just puts it in the bottom corner. Sometimes things like that just happen and we were really unfortunate with that.

“It’s a very difficult place to come because they have a unique playing style where they’re very physical, big boys in their team, and they’re very good at it, you have to give them credit for what they do. They defend well, they play for set pieces and that’s how they scored a goal today.”

With three games remaining, Mitov was clear that the Dons need to move on from this defeat very quickly before heading into the double header against Rangers and then Celtic.

“This is an afternoon where we need to forget it as quick as possible, clear our heads and go into the next one with a positive mindset. We know the league is not in our hands. We need to win every single game and we need Hibs to slip up, which is something we cannot control. But what we can control is our performances in the remaining games of the season and I’m sure this group will bounce back really quickly.

“We need to be absolutely at it in every single remaining game of the season if we want to have a chance of finishing third, because that’s been the aim all season. We want to be there because we know how much it means to us, how much it means to the club and to our supporters, and we’re going to do absolutely everything that we can to do that.”
