Reflecting on the win
“We’ve been eager to get this game played since last week.
“We were negligent in the second half at Pittodrie although our approach to the first match was spot on. We missed chances and were punished. Tonight, it was just about having a real focus and using our experience.
“We have been a good cup team over the years. I got reminded enough about the time Aberdeen lost here to Terry Christie’s team and it’s easy why people looked at this game as being a bit more trickier. I thought the players were clinical in the first half and we spoke at half time about just making sure there was no sloppiness. The goal we lost was disappointing and to score from inside our six yard box isn’t good enough, but by in large there were some good performances.
“We stretched them and worked them and I thought we looked like a proper team tonight. Delighted we managed to score four goals and we threatened to score a lot more.”
Greg Stewart
“It was a brilliant finish and he just had enough pace on the dink to get it over the line with the boy tracking back.
“I thought he was very influential for us and brings that bit of thought. We really stretched the full backs and it gave him and Shinnie good space to operate in. I think he’s been playing very well for us and in the first game against Stenhousemuir he was our best player on the park. You always feel when Greg gets it something’s going to happen.”
Transfer News?
“Who knows? I’ve just taken a step back from it as the game tonight needed full focus.
“We’ll see where we are and make a few calls after the game. I’d still like to bring one more in if we could, but we’re getting bodies back with the likes of Devlin and McKenna not too far away and Reynolds is back.
“We’ve got some good attacking options with some good youngsters coming through and if we don’t bring one in then it’ll not be the end of the world, but just for the challenges ahead I’d just like to maybe add a wee bit more to the squad if we could.
“There’s been a few players we’ve asked the question of and spoken to various managers about – some of whom have been more positive than others.”
Scott McKenna Update
“As expected it wasn’t as bad as the last time, when he got injured against Rangers.
“He was out for the next six or seven weeks then and he’ll miss the next two or three games now.
“Hopefully he’ll get back for the next cup tie, but the good news was it was nothing significant. Hopefully he’ll be back before too long.
Queen Of The South In The Next Round
“There’s no surprise Stephen Dobbie got a hat-trick. I played with him at a few clubs and know how good a player he is. It’s fair to say we’ll look at QOS a lot more between now and next Sunday. I’ve seen them once already this season and was impressed.
“Gary’s doing a good job there and Dobbie’s a talisman for them so we’ll deal with that game when it comes around. I’m just delighted to get through it and have a home tie against a tough opponent.
“We’ll try make the most of that.”
