Kristers Tobers was the player who spoke to the media on Friday to preview Saturday’s match against Kilmarnock.
“Of course, after the win everything is very positive. The guys are happy and we will try and build from that. It was a really important win, a relief to get the three points in what was a hard game away from home. Hopefully it will be a positive result tomorrow as well.
“The mood around the training ground has been positive since I came in. It has always been positive. Everyone understands that you cannot be negative before going into a game. Everyone needs to look forward, even if it is a hard situation, during a hard period of time. When the team were not winning, everyone was still positive and looking to try and break the losing streak. So the cup game was a relief, but we were still missing that win in the league. It has helped boost our confidence even more now.
“Everything with me personally is really good, everything happened so fast, but settling in has been really easy as a lot of people in the club helped me. I don’t need to worry about a lot of things off the pitch which allows me to focus on football, and that is the most important thing.
“I am focused on my job, I just want to help team succeed.
“I want help the team to get clean sheets. That is something we are missing at the moment. I want to defend the goal, put my body on the line and block shots. I want to communicate with my team mates to make things easier for everyone on the pitch. That is my job.
“Playing alongside Mats has been really good. My previous team mate who was also from the Netherlands knew Mats. So we get along really well. It is also easier to play alongside Mats because he is left footed so that helps a lot for our team, playing out from the back. The more we play together and the more we train together, the easier it will get. And we will know each other even more on the pitch.
“As a team we are taking it game by game. We go into each game looking for a win. That is our goal. Everyone understands the situation we are in. There is no need to rush things and look further ahead.
“We had a really important win last week, and we have a really important game tomorrow. We are trying to build on that, stay calm and focus on the next game. Everyone is ready for it, you can feel it in training. Everyone is giving 100% in the training. If the intensity is there in the training, it helps a lot in the games.
“I know Kilmarnock are a good team. They are a physical side but they are also a side, if you let them play, then they will play. They have a lot of quality players who are playing really good with the ball. They put in a lot of crosses. We are going to have to be on top of our game tomorrow and be ready for it. It will be another tough game for us but I am looking forward to it and hopefully the home fans will support us throughout.
“If there is one thing that has surprised me since I arrived, is our support. When we played Dundee, our fans who came, it felt like a home game. I did not expect that, as many fans as there were. It was a very nice surprise, to see the size of the support we had. When you have 3,000 fans supporting you at an away game, it is amazing. We are also very grateful.
“I expected physical football. I expected a lot of duels. But you can also see that each team has loads of quality players on the pitch. So it is not easy to play here. As a defender you have to be very careful because if you give away openings, then teams will take their chances.
“The squad are all very close and the chemistry in the dressing room is really good. So that made it very easy to settle in.”
