“For my goal a lot of credit has to go to Adam Rooney because he was the one who had a word with me when I was jogging over to the ball to take the free kick. He told me to have a look at the goal keeper and basically instructed me to have a shot.
“I think in his head he was thinking he would get a toe to it and get a goal himself! I’ll be honest and say I did not mean it to go as perfect as it did right between the wall but I am delighted it went in.
“I have never played in a match where there has been a goal as quick as that. And it was strange because for the first five minutes of game you just want to settle into the game and get used to it, especially at Hampden in front of such a big crowd. Fair play to the boys, the start was electric and it was strange feeling to go into the lead so quickly.
“If there is one person who want going through on goal after 12 seconds then it Adam Rooney. I was delighted for him. I thought from start to finish he was incredible. It is hard playing upfront yourself especially against the two good big defenders that Hibs had. He used his body well and held the ball up at important times in the game. He deserves a lot of credit for his performance.
“The game went our way and then went there way. There were a lot of changes in momentum. I think if we had got to half time 2-0 up then it might have been more relaxed in the second half. Obviously conceding the goal was very frustrating. At half-time we tried to forget about it and wanted to come out in the second half and do as well as we could. Hibs made it very difficult for us and had a very good game plan second half, it maybe took us a while to adjust to that and we were on the back foot a little bit.
“Again it is great credit to the boys. There have been a number of games this season when we have had to ride storms and see games out. Luckily today we managed to keep ourselves in the game and Jonny goes up the other end and scores a goal.
“It is a strange one (the situation I now find myself in). A few of my friends and family have been reminding me. Before today I was just concentrating on helping Aberdeen get to final. I am delighted for all the boys and the coaching staff that we have managed to do that today.
“Now I get to sit back and watch the other game and we will see what happens. I have been asked a few times and I don’t really know what to say. I am a Celtic player. Sometimes you have to selfish and cup finals is what you play football for and the Scottish Cup final is the biggest game of the season. I always want to be involved in games like that. So we will just see what happens tomorrow.”
