Scott Booth: Montrose Reaction

Scott Booth shared his thoughts after Aberdeen Women lost 1-0 to Montrose on Sunday. "I'm really disappointed because there was not much in the game at all really. I mean, it wasn't a great game of football, but I felt that the difference for me was that opening 15 minutes of the second half. I felt we were too passive and that's one thing that you can't be against Montrose. "You could feel in that first 15 minutes of the second half that you've got a wind against you, and that's when you need players to stand up and be counted and get through that phase, and not lose a goal in that phase and then come through it, but we kept giving Montrose corners in that second half. You're against the wind, the ball’s coming into your penalty box and then that means that you've got to go and head it and get to the ball first, and one of those corners came in, and we didn't do that. It lands in the six-yard box, and there's only one place that's going to go. "It's 100% game savvy, 100%, and that's been a big thing all season, trying to pinpoint how you give those players that type of savvy, but I think if you look at it like today, the difference between the two teams was that one team’s got a little bit more of that game savvy and also that little bit of, ability to fight and do anything to get that win and get the ball over the line, and I think you could probably put those two things hand in hand, a little bit of game savvy and going the extra yard to make sure that you get the win or you keep the points, you don't give away the lead, all those things. "If it does go to that stage (play-off final), it's going to come down to one game, and you need to be able in that one game to do all those things that we've talked about, have that better savvy, be able to handle the situation, because mentally and physically that's tough at the end of the season, and mentally it's been a long, hard season, so that'll be quite draining. "It's about handling those things, making sure that in the next two games that we play, that we find our rhythm, find the ability to play a bit more freely, but I also think that at times the things that we work on the training ground, we need to be able to put them on the pitch, and that's one of the things I feel like we're really struggling with right now, is turning the training model and what we do and what we work on day after day, week after week, and actually being able to put that on the pitch when you're up against a team that want to stop you. "There is quality in the group, but we have to be able to find that quality on the pitch, and I think if we are honest, we're not able at this moment to turn those players that do well in training, that go away on international breaks, into performances for Aberdeen."
