Sam Cosgrove | "really thankful to the supporters"

“I didn’t know we were second as I’ve not had the chance to look at the league, but the main thing is the three points. “Getting up to second means a good result for us. “I’ve said in previous interviews I knew I was capable of it and I’m really happy with the form I’ve hit. “I don’t tend to go on twitter, but we knew as a squad the criticism was there. “As a team we weren’t scoring, but at the end of the day the focus does come down on the strikers. Does it affect us? I think all the strikers have been motivated even more to score.

It’s not had a hinderance on us at all and if anything, it’s motivated us even more to get those goals. Now the pressure’s been cranked up a little bit we’ve started to deliver.

“I’ve just tried to stick to my game and had the ethos to work as hard as I can.

“I’ve always known that goals will come and now it just seems that the goals have fallen for me. I’m just thankful that the goals are coming.

“They called it crisis talks, but it wasn’t a crisis. It was just a meeting about how we’re going to score goals a couple of games ago and everyone up in the final third of the pitch was involved. All over the pitch the quality and importance of scoring goals has been realised. The service has been brilliant recently.

“To hear my name being called from the stands is brilliant. I try not to let it get to my head and just try focus on the game, but I’m really thankful to the supporters.

“Confidence wise it’s nearly as good as we can get. It’s now four wins in a row over such a short space of time and the closeness of the fixtures can take it’s tole on the body. When you keep winning it spurs you on and at the moment there’s a few tired legs, but in terms of the mental side you could see today we’ve ground out the 2-0 win. Going into the game on Boxing Day we’re full of confidence and 100% we’ll go for three points.

“You saw the crowd today, the stadium looked pretty full, I’m sure it will be the same on Boxing Day. They can play their part and it spurs us on massively. We’ve got to step up to the mark as well.

“You have bits and pieces that maybe give you that bit of extra motivation, but I don’t think any extra motivation comes from spite. We’ll be motivated enough for the game for the fixture we know it is and we don’t need any added pressure.

“We’ll go into the match confident and we’re massively determined to get as many points as we can on the board. We’ve made a storm up the league recently and another win pushes us on even further.

“It’s a good Celtic side and we’ve put in some decent performances against them. If we put in a performance anywhere near that we always give ourselves a chance to win those games.”
