Sub Vernon scores with super strike
SPFL | Aberdeen v Inverness CT | 3.00pm KO | Pittodrie Stadium
Aberdeen 1
Vernon 80
ICT 0
Aberdeen beat league leaders Inverness this afternoon in a tense battle at Pittodrie. The Dons were the better team in the first half with Calvin Zola causing a lot of problems in the area with his height and strength. He was holding the ball up well which allowed runners to come onto to the play. The best chance came when the striker laid the ball off to Cammy Smith and his low shot was brilliantly saved by Brill.
The second half though was a much closer affair with few chances at either end although Cammy smith did well to clear a ICT chance off the line. Derek McInnes decided to make three changes – with Magennis, Low and Vernon coming on. Nicky Low was outstanding in the middle of the park and he was involved in the winning goal. On 80 minutes he lofted the ball into the area. Peter Pawlett flicked it on and Scott Vernon swivelled and hit a superb low shot into the corner of the net. Inverness threw everything at the Dons in the final stages but in the end it was a comfortable afternoon for Jamie Langfield.
