The manager spoke to the media after the game which saw his side record an 8th consecutive league win and clean sheet

“Conditions were not ideal for both sets of players.

“St Mirren had the better of the play in the opening stages and were able to get some shots in from around the box due to our sloppiness.

“We never really settled till we got the first goal. Once we got the first goal from Niall we then quickly get the second goal and after that I thought we managed the game very well.

“It was a very mature performance from us.

“We said to the players at half time that we had to make sure in the second half we did not give St Mirren any encouragement and I thought that was the case. We never really allowed them to get any momentum going.

“If I was to be slightly critical we maybe should have done better with some of our chances in the second half but I would very happily have taken a 2-0 win at the start.

“I thought Niall was outstanding and worked very hard. His performance was excellent but they usually are for me. The support was singing his name from the first minute which was pleasing. We were guilty of not giving him enough of the ball but any time he got the ball he beat the full-back and he was still doing it at the death and setting up chances.

“I didn't think he was any more determined, he always is determined. But I was delighted for him to score a goal. The conditions played a part in that but he still has to be positive and everything he did was positive.”
