Quotes from the Press Room

After the draw in Perth, Derek McInnes gave his verdict to the media “I thought a draw was a fair result. “St Johnstone were far more aggressive than us in the opening half hour period. Although we have had chances in the first half – we have hit the bar and had a shot cleared off the line – St Johnstone imposed themselves far better in the opening forty five. “I thought we were far better at the start of the second half. We were far more threatening and Adam then scores a brilliant goal. “We tried to be positive with our subs and made them early enough so they could influence the game.

“I thought a draw was a fair result.

“We were far better all round in the second half but I think you have to credit St Johnstone. They are always a tough opponent and they reacted well to their disappointing performance midweek. They were certainly up for tonight’s game.

“Overall a draw was the right result as we were not good enough to win it.

“It was a very good goal from Adam. It sat up nicely for him but he has still got a lot to do. A fantastic strike and very good technique.

“After the goal we started to knock on the door and got ourselves in some good positions but saying that St Johnstone had some good chances at the end as well which they could have made more of.  Scott Brown made a good save.

“The main disappointment was not the fact we did not go on and win the game after Adam’s goal, the main disappointment was the way we started the game. We were backed by a big crowd and we knew the importance of the game, we had the chance to go back to the top of the league. I don’t think the start reflected that.

“It is not a disaster coming away from here with a point. St Johnstone are a good side and they showed that tonight. From our point of view we came here to win but our performance was not good enough. In that first half hour St Johnstone turned us, got the ball forward quicker than us, they won more tackles, more second balls, more headers, their passing was better and they were generally more aggressive.

“We still remain unbeaten and 26 points from 30 is still a very good run but we want to win games and the way we started the game did not give us that opportunity tonight. We did not do the basics which let the game go in St Johnstone’s favour.

“We looked disjointed at first, I am not sure if that was because of the positional changes. We were better second half as I say but not good enough in the final third to win the game.

“The subs last week gave me something to think about and they did again this evening. Smith and Shankland came on and did well. Cammy might have done better with his header at the near post but he gave us a real dose of energy. There is a lot of confidence about his play. Lawrence has that knack of finding space inside the box and he worked the keeper a couple of times.”
