The Dons head for the Dutch province of Goor on Saturday, with our pre-season camp concluding with a friendly match against FC Twente.
Recent Outings
We were in action on Wednesday, against German side FC Bocholt 1900 in a training match, Kenan Bilalovic scoring on the hour mark to give the Dons a 1-0 win. Stephen Robinson named two different XI’s in each half, as he did against Cove Rangers last Saturday, as we continue to prepare for 2026-27. Prior to Wednesday, we defeated Formartine United (5-0), and Cove Rangers (1-0).
Thank you to Formartine, Cove, and FC Bocholt 1900 for the games, and we wish them well for the season ahead.
Action from The Netherlands
De Tukkers
FC Twente Enschede will play European football this season, their fourth place finish in last season's Eredivisie means they will enter the UEFA Europa League in the second qualifying round on 23 July.
Saturday's friendly will take place at GFC Goor, Sportpark, Heeckeren.
In the Twente ranks is one time Man United forward Wout Weghorst, ex Norwich man Ricky van Wolfswinkel, and former Rangers attacker Sam Lammers.
They are managed by John van den Brom who enjoyed spells as a player at Vitesse, Ajax, where he lifted the Champions League in 1994-95, and has managed Jong Ajax, ADO Den Haag, Anderlecht, FC Utrecht, Genk, Lech Poznań and Twente.
Dons and Twente
Former Dons winger Jeffrey de Visscher is currently back at Twente as assistant manager, the club he started at in 2000.
The Theo's, Snelders and Ten Caat, are also part of a good list of players to have plied their trade at both. The only Scotsman in the list, Scott Booth, returned to The Dons in 2003 after four years in Enschede.
Player Perspective
"The new boys will have played probably five games together before our first competitive game, which is important because by the time the competitive games start, we have to be ready to go. We have to win games straight from the start of the season." Nicky Devlin speaking to RedTV.
