Paul Sheerin on RedTV

After the 1-1 draw with Celtic last night in Brechin in the SPFL Development League, Paul Sheerin spoke to RedTV: “I am satisfied with the draw. “I thought we rode our luck at times. I thought we were a bit edgy for whatever reason. I thought in terms of composure and possession of the ball, we were poor. It terms of attitude and application I thought we were fine. Our work ethic was great but that should be a given. I have consistently said that. I just felt at times in the game we could have taken the sting out of it a bit more. “We scored a great goal. A really really good goal.

After the 1-1 draw with Celtic last night in Brechin in the SPFL Development League, Paul Sheerin spoke to RedTV:

“I am satisfied with the draw.

It was great play by young Lewis Hutchison coming in off the (left) side. He played a good ball to Sam who produces a great delivery and big Joe is in the right place to produce a good finish.

“At that stage you are thinking go on and win the game. We will take a 1-0 and try and grind it out but unfortunately we lose a poor goal. The build up to their corner was disappointing as we got caught in possession. However to be fair to Celtic it was a great delivery from the corner and it is difficult to defend against.

“It was disappointing we could not stand up a bit more to the pressure and see the game out.

“Although I am disappointed to not win the game after getting our nose in front, if I am honest, we have done well to come away from the game with a draw.

“David Craddock had to come on after Aaron got injured. He did very well. He made a couple of good saves. He stood up well to one shot and also made a good reflex save. It is not easy for goalkeepers coming on cold like that but he acquitted himself really well. Gordon Marshall was making the point that he is a very good talker which gives the defenders round about him confidence.

“Celtic have done very well to go undefeated all season (in the Development League). I know they have one game left (against Motherwell) but to go 31 games unbeaten at any level is a great achievement. That was there motivation tonight, not to get beaten. Our motivation was to try and stop them achieving that. In the early part they maybe showed a little bit more desire and got to more second balls than we did which was frustrating on our part.

“Second half we competed much better.

“Our aim though is not just to be happy with draws. Our aim is to try and beat Celtic and try and get as close to them as possible. In terms of quality they were better than us but we have got more to offer, especially in terms of keeping the football.”

Paul also confirmed on RedTV that Kalvin Orsi, Lukas Culjak, Sam Robertson and Liam Lambert will not be offered new deals and will be leaving Pittodrie this week.

“We have spoken to the boys who will be leaving at the end of the season.

“It is always very tough.

“Kalvin Orsi has left us. We wish Kalvin well for the future. Lukas Culjak is still playing and trying to prove himself to other people now. Sam Robertson is leaving and that was tough as he has been great around the place. Liam Lambert, who has not kicked a ball in anger this season, was a tough decision to make but because of his injury we have had to let him go. Hopefully he can get himself fit and get himself going again.

“Regards the players who are coming in, we have decided which players will step up from the Academy. These guys have all been involved with the U20s at some stage this season. There are probably still a few places available for one or two other players to come into the squad.”

The young Dons final game on the season is against Ross County on Tuesday at 6.00pm.
