Paul Quinn became a Don on Friday and the defender is the latest piece in the jigsaw for Derek McInnes as the manager builds his squad up ahead of the new campaign. Graeme Shinnie, 18-year-old former Manchester City striker Joe Nuttall, and now Paul have all added to what is already a very strong and settled squad. After completing his medical on Friday Paul spoke to RedTV. The 29-year-old, who played for Motherwell, Cardiff City, Doncaster Rovers and Ross County, is delighted to be a Don.
“Over the last few weeks my agent was contacted by the club and they expressed an interest in me. As soon as I heard that I was straight into it and looked into getting a deal done. It took some time but I am now delighted it is finally done.
“There is no end of things which appeal about coming to Pittodrie.
“From the fan base and the size of the club to European football. And also the fact Aberdeen have set themselves the challenge in the last couple of years of winning trophies and being in those European places on a regular basis. Seeing how far they can go in the league is an exciting proposition for me.
“The manager influenced my decision in coming here. The gaffer spoke about how we would work together and it is hugely exciting for me. If we can work well on the training pitch then we can take that into a game day. I believe we will work really well together here.
“This is the shortest summer I’ve ever had, some of the other boys are going to have even shorter breaks, but luckily for me I’m excited about getting going and getting into it so the short break won’t bother me.
“I had a good time in England. When I came back up I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to stay here or go back down south again but I fell in love with the game again in Scotland and enjoyed my spell at Ross County and it was good that we met our target of staying up.
“Now I’m at a bigger club with a support of 10-12,000 and it is very exciting.
“The standard is Scotland was better than I expected. A lot of people say the league is not as good as it was but I don’t believe that is true. Aberdeen, Inverness and St Johnstone are proof of that. “Everyone I spoke to was positive about Aberdeen as a club and as a place to live. It was important that I did that ground work but ultimately all the pieces have added together and I’m delighted to be here and that is why I have signed.”
Finally Paul is looking forward to linking up with former Motherwell defensive partner Mark Reynolds.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve worked with Mark and it will be helpful to have a big character to work alongside again in him. He has had a really good career.
“Of the other boys, I’ve played against the players numerous times and I’m looking forward to working with the squad.”
