Our end product, our quality, our decision let us down

The Manager Post Match

Stephen Robinson pointed to a lack of quality in the final third as the Dons were beaten 1-0 by St Johnstone at Pittodrie.

“It was a frustrating afternoon because I thought we totally dominated the game, but didn’t do enough with the ball. Their goal, I haven't seen it back, but if it's hit Jack's hand, then those are the rules of the game. I'm not sure where he's meant to put his hand, but the rules of the game, if it's hit his hand from an inch or a yard, then it's a penalty, unfortunately.

“In the first half, we moved the ball way too slow. Way, way too many passes in front of them. It took too long to get the opposite side of the pitch. I thought the second half was better. We moved it quicker. We got into areas where we should have hurt them.

“Our end product, our quality, our decision let us down numerous times. I've said to the boys, that's not what I'm seeing in training. I see the confidence. I see the quality. We've not been able to replicate that today. It's tough playing for Aberdeen, but that's what they've worked for. I know that they can step up to it. It's just they need to do it sooner rather than later.

“We've got Kevin as a goalscorer, but if Kevin doesn't score, then we need other people to step up. As I say, I see that in training and obviously the injury to Ayoub didn’t help.

“At the minute, we're taking one touch too many. We're playing safe. There's sometimes a little bit of fear. A goal changes everything, but we didn't manage to get that today. That increases the pressure on you in decision-making.

“I see a group of boys that are working very, very hard. Ultimately, we didn't have the quality or the bravery to get something out of the game. We lacked the killer decision, the quality in terms of our last pass, last action. It wasn't there and we had numerous opportunities to do that and get back into the game, and go and win it.

“I need more out of the wingers. I've told them that. I thought Lewis, up to a point, was good. And then it's the end product, which we see every day in training from him. Tony's just turned 21. He's a baby. He's a kid. He's a project. We're going to have up and down moments with him, but I know that they've got the quality. I've got the belief in them.

"Hicham is not fully fit yet. It was a case of getting as many creative players on the pitch as we could to see if we could break them down, but we didn’t manage to do that.”
