James McGarry will leave the Club to join Brisbane Roar on 1st of July.

The 27-year-old arrived in the summer of 2023 having just won the A-League Championship with Central Coast Mariners. He made his debut in the Europa League play-off match against Hacken, a 70th minute sub as the Dons battled back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

However, the left-back was unable to regularly oust Jack MacKenzie from the starting eleven during his tenure at Pittodrie, culminating in a short-term loan to Athens Kallithea last January.

A New Zealand cap, he heads back down under having played 28 times in Red, scoring once against Dumbarton in the Premier Sports Cup last July.

Dons boss Jimmy Thelin said: “A culmination of frustrating injuries and the form of Jack (MacKenzie) made life a little difficult for James, but I have never had any complaints about his attitude or professionalism.

“Sometimes things just don’t quite go the way everyone plans when a player makes a move, and I think that is the case here.

“He has a lot of experience in the A-League, and with a fresh start, I am sure he’ll do well there. He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for his future career.”
