Ahead of the game with Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday evening, Barry Robson and Kelle Roos took the media’s questions, the manager setting out his objectives for the game ahead.
“We know they’re a really good team with some quality players, but we’ve got some good players as well. We want to impose ourselves on the game as much as we can, that’s our intention. We want to go out there and enjoy it, to relish the occasion and to make the most of it, to bring a positive performance.
“We need to be tactically good, because top teams will change the way they play in games and you have to adapt to that immediately. We’ve watched them closely, we know how they like to play, we’ve given the players the information they need about them, so we’re as prepared as we can be. We know we need to do all aspects of the game well but if we can do that, we give ourselves an opportunity.
“It’s important to be clinical, in both boxes. That’s what wins and loses games and of we had been a bit more clinical in some key moments, we’d be in a different position at the moment. It’s something we need to start putting right.”
Kelle Roos was quick to point out that any success that Aberdeen might get in the game will have to be built on a solid foundation at the back.
“First and foremost, we want to be hard to beat and if we can do that, then we have a platform to go and get a good result. Last season we had a very settled defence in the second half of the season and that is different this season, because players have left, new players have joined. It takes every player some time at a new club before he is completely settled in, and we are in that process now.
“We are building relationships on a daily basis in training and we are improving every day. We have a lot of good players here and the more time we spend together, the better the team will become. If we hit the level we are capable of, then we can cause problems for teams in this group, but that’s something we have to go and show on the pitch.”
