London Dons go for the Double!

An already successful season for newly crowned APFSCIL Champions London Aberdeen reaches its climax on Friday 8th May when they take on London Celtic in the Dave Baister Cup Final. The match is an 8pm kick off at Kingsmeadow, home of AFC Wimbledon. The bar is open beforehand, and all London based Dons are welcome to head along as the boys look to win a historic double. The Dons have a record any senior side would be proud of domestically, winning 13 of their 14 league games, scoring 48 while conceding a miserly 11.

However the Dons had to show great courage in the semi final of the cup against rivals Middlesbrough to keep the double dream alive. After the Dons missed a last minute penalty when leading 1-0 in normal time, Boro hit back to force an injury time equaliser before leading 2-1 with 8 minutes left in extra time. Despite the influx of new young bucks into the team this year, it was left to Captain and ex Elgin City defender Andy Smith to force home the equaliser before the Dons won through 7-6 in a nervy penalty shoot out.   Manager Tom Waterston is looking forward to the Final saying “We’ve had a great season winning the league title for the first time in 4 years and to add the league cup as well would be a fantastic achievement.  The whole squad has played their part and they are all really looking forward to the cup final.  The opportunity is there for this team to write themselves into the RRR history books.”.   The London Dons (aka the Rob Roy Reds) continue to go from strength to strength. As well as running two football teams, the club took around 100 people to ParkRed last year, and another 50 to the Semi Final this year. The club holds regular socials and golf days etc so would always like to hear from exiled Dons in London (particularly those that have played football to a good standard!)   Please get in contact via the Rob Roy Reds facebook page www.facebook.com/robroyreds or email [email protected]
