Kilmarnock Post Match | Anthony O'Connor

“It was nice to get back onto the pitch and to put things right. “It’s an old cliché but after a defeat you need to get back onto the field and put things in order as fast as you can. “We did that. “We suffered two horrible defeats down in Glasgow. The Cup final, individually and collectively we did not give the best account of ourselves. We were sick to the stomach after the game. I was completely gutted about it. We felt like we let everyone down but that is football.

“We suffered two horrible defeats down in Glasgow. The Cup final, individually and collectively we did not give the best account of ourselves. We were sick to the stomach after the game.  I was completely gutted about it. We felt like we let everyone down but that is football. We went to Rangers and put in a better performance but did not get the result we wanted so it was another real disappointment.

“Coming to Pittodrie tonight we knew we needed to put in a performance and get a result. It was nice to get the win and the three points.

“Kilmarnock tried to stop us playing and wanted to get right into our faces early on and it was working for the first 10-15 minutes as we could not break them down or find those little passes into pockets for our attacking players to get turned and get at their defence. They set out to be compact but after the first goal the game has opened up a bit. Then when I get the second one they are then forced to push on a bit and that is when gaps started to open up and Jonny has pretty much killed the game with the third goal.

“We know the game was not completely over though at half time so the next goal was going to be crucial. We did not want to give them any encouragement so it was nice when Niall knocked in the fourth. The game was then dead and buried. We were therefore disappointed to lose a goal. You ask any defender, all you want to do is keep clean sheets when you play games. It you asked me if I wanted to win 1-0 or 5-1, I would say 1-0 because clean sheets is what you pride yourself on as a defender. I was disappointed not to get it.

“It is a good win for us though and we move into the St Johnstone game with confidence.

“The two previous matches against them this season have been very tight affairs. We drew 0-0 on the opening day of the season and then beat them 1-0 with a goal in the last minute in the cup game. Very close games. So we know Saturday will be very tough. We knew they how they will setup and play but we are able to deal with that. They all work very hard for each other. It should be a good game and after tonight it is one we are all looking forward to.”
