Kelle Roos was the Aberdeen hero with his second half penalty save just one of a number of interventions that saw the Dons to a 0-0 draw with Hibernian at Pittodrie.
“It was an important save from the penalty, it’s one that really counts in a big game, so it was pretty emotional. Today we had to work really hard and dig really deep to get the clean sheet, but I think me and the defenders deserved it.
“When you face a penalty, you try to make some territorial movements, I like to try to take command of the situation. We had a nice little chat, one of their players squared up but I told him to relax, we were just having a nice conversation. I was happy to make the save. Whether it was because of that, who knows? You stand on your line, make sure you’re big, and do your job.
“The goalkeepers work really hard all week and the goalkeeping department will be buzzing because of the penalty save and the clean sheet. There was a good save in the first half which the ref gave as a goal kick, and then the penalty save goes down to the work that’s done for us in analysing the opposition, doing the homework for us that makes it possible for me to study the way he might take that penalty. Big credit to the guys for doing that, and it has paid off today.
“Hibs have shown us already this season that they can hurt us, they’re a good team and we respect that. It was a busy day at the back as a result of that, but this is when you can take real pride in keeping a clean sheet.
“We don’t play at Pittodrie to get a draw, we come here to win all our games. Sometimes though the game pans out differently and you need to dig your heels in and show a lot of courage and determination and this was a day like that. We were a bit tentative today, but we didn’t lack spirit, we showed that, but we didn’t produce the composure that we wanted.
“This football club aims to be in Europe, we are determined to achieve that, and we are showing that on the pitch. We are still in a very god position. We are all pulling in the same direction, and as long as we do that, we will be a tough team to beat. Every week is an important game, even more so after the split when you play the teams around you, which I’m excited by, and so now we start to focus on the game with Hearts next week.”
