Stefan Gartenmann admitted that the Dons are in a real fight at the bottom of the SPFL Premiership after losing to Dundee on Wednesday night.

“It was a very difficult night. We were hoping that Saturday’s result would give us a boost, but now we’re back where we were a week ago. We’re very disappointed in our performance. With so many fans, it’s like playing at home and we’ve let them down once again.

“It’s a serious situation, the table doesn’t lie. We’re not many points clear of the relegation zone, the pressure is becoming bigger and bigger. On Saturday, we have to go and turn this around.

“Inconsistency is the story of our season, we can play great like we did on Saturday and then the next game is like tonight, not good enough. We can’t talk about how good the squad is if we aren’t performing. We have to show up in every game and we aren’t doing that. We can’t just turn up in big games, we have to do it in these kinds of games. It’s not going to be pretty, we have to accept the battle and take it game by game.

“We need to win a game in the league and then we will go forward, but we’ve talked about that for the past two months and everybody is tired of hearing it. We have to put action behind those words. We have to make things happen, we have to be in their box to get the penalties and the deflections that are going against us.

“The managerial situation hasn’t helped but it’s not an excuse. Yes, it’s been chaotic at times but we still have good players. We don’t show it enough. We have to look at each other and turn this around.”
