Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin tasted a little bit of adversity for the first time in his short Aberdeen reign as his side trailed 1-0 at half-time to Airdrie, but he was thrilled that he and his team could find a way to recover and win the game in the second half.
“I think Airdrie was better than us in the first half. We were too spread out as a team, we weren’t connected enough, and they played well, they had some good switches and also fine combinations inside our block.
“But I’m really happy how the players responded at half-time and went out in the second half and turned around the game with some determination. It was a much more compact team, a more intense team, so I’m really happy with that change.
“We talked about staying calm and that we had to adjust. We were too far away from each other. In the second half it was much more intense, higher block and we were winning more duels. From there we were also creating more chances and some fast attacks, but we mixed that with some really good combinations.
“Bojan did really well with his presence and how he was leading the press and covering the passing lines. Of course, he makes an impact when he plays, so that was good, and he brings energy to the stadium and we need that from the supporters.
“Sometimes when things are not working the way you want, you need the extra energy from the supporters. It was connected in the second half, the players on the pitch and the fans. That’s the energy we needed to find a way to win the game.
“In the end, it was a party for everyone. Even the seagulls were here to have a party tonight! I saw them, they were everywhere – it was nice to have extra supporters!”
