Barry Robson was thrilled with the performance of his Aberdeen side as they put Hearts to the sword at Pittodrie in a 3-0 win.

“For 45 minutes, you saw us playing at a real speed and intensity and that’s exciting. The speed of the transitions, going through teams quickly, the acceleration of the front players, the counter-pressing was all there. It’s not easy to keep that going for 90 minutes against a good Hearts team, Robbie’s built a good side there and done a great job. At half-time we spoke about managing the game and we did that well, but we still carried a threat, so I was very proud of the boys today.

“We’ve had some good performances the last few weeks and seen signs of being the kind of team we want to be. The way we want to play is fast, up and at you, playing through the lines, being exciting. It’s a hard way of playing, you need to be skilled at it, physically ready for it, but they did it perfectly first half. When we did that and we did it right, we looked a proper team.

“We were hard to deal with and, by being aggressive, when you do lose the ball, you’re in better places to win it back, you’re all closer, there’s no distances to play through you. Our possession stats have probably come down, but the chances we create has gone through the roof. The team look okay at the minute. At times, we look very good.

“Enthusiasm is something that rips through your team, your club, through the fans. Duk is a humble kid that works ever so hard. Mattie Pollock just wants to win. He loves defending, he loves attacking the ball, all day, every day he’ll give you the same enthusiasm. He’s a throwback in that sense, really wanting to defend, that’s what the best ones do first and foremost.

“I’ve been here a long time, I’m from the area, and all I want is for Aberdeen to win football matches. The fans work all week, they come here and they just want to get a bit of excitement and go away and have a chat about the game that they’ve enjoyed afterwards. You just want them to go away happy. On that basis, today’s been a good day.”
