testimonial for Russell Guild
Derek McInnes will take the Dons to Huntly this weekend for their second pre-season game. Aberdeen will be providing the opposition for a testimonial match for Huntly midfielder Russell Guild. The Dons will make the trip to Christie Park on Saturday to honour a player who has given thirteen years of service to his local club and is also a big Aberdeen fan.
Allan Mitchell, who is chairing the testimonial committee, told RedWeb
“On behalf of Russell and his testimonial committee I would like to thank Aberdeen FC for agreeing to travel to Huntly to take part in Russell’s testimonial game.
“We are all excited at the prospect of seeing a new Aberdeen team in the making with a young go ahead manager in Derek McInnes as visitors to Christie Park with the prospect of a bumper crowd as well. The last testimonial match the club hosted was for Martin Stewart against Aberdeen in 2005 under which attracted a big attendance hopes are again very high to repeat that very successful day all round and reward Russell with a cracking match to reward his long loyal service to Huntly FC.”
Guild (32) has turned out in 464 games for the club scoring 117 times and started out in the Huntly Boys League before signing for Huntly Amateurs and debuted for Huntly as a youth player in December 1998 before signing a full contract in 1999/2000 under Phil Bonnyman. Russell was club captain in 2004/05 when they last won the Highland League title and he also picked up cup winners medals in the Qualifying Cup (1999/2000) and SFA North Region Challenge Cup (2007/08). This past season he netted the side’s 100th Scottish Cup and their 5000th league goal.
A statement from the club said: “Huntly FC are delighted to see Russell’s lengthy service recognised with a well-deserved testimonial match. He has shown a great attitude both on and off the park over the last fourteen years and shown himself to be one of the best midfield players to grace the Highland League during that time.”
There will be a familiar face in the Huntly line up on Saturday. Former Aberdeen defender Michael Hart had originally signed a short term contract with the black and gold’s back in February but after featuring ten times and scoring twice, he has committed himself to the club for another year and the 33 year old is set to go up against the Dons on Saturday. Admission prices for the game will be:
Adults: £10 Concessions: £5
The game will not be all-ticket but there are a limited number of tickets for both the stand and ground on sale from Huntly FC which will allow spectators to beat the queues at the turnstiles on the day of the match.
Please also note the AFC Mobile Merchandise Unit will be in attendance once again.
