The fourth AFC Player of the Year Dinner, sponsored by Universal Inspection (UK) Ltd took place this evening at the AECC.
The AFC Player of the Year award for 2014/15 went to Adam Rooney.
The award was voted by the Red Army through RedTV and AFC’S local radio partner Northsound. A number of players picked up a lot of votes but the Dons striker came out a clear winner. Adam’s efforts this season were also recognised by his team mates as he was also named the AFC Players Player of the Year and he completed a hat-trick of awards with his stunning goal against St Johnstone in January winning him the Goal of the Season prize, which again was voted for by the supporters.
After receiving the award, sponsored by ACE and presented by Gordon Reid, Adam spoke exclusively to RedTV.
“I am very happy.
“I was not expecting to get one award so it was certainly a surprise to get three.
“It is great recognition at the end of a long season for myself but it could have been any one of a large number of boys up there getting awards tonight and winning the player of the year prize because we have had so many players who have played at a fantastic level.
“It is nice to get the award from the players, the guys who you are in training with every day. Also I would like to thank the supporters for voting for me.
“It is always nice to score goals and the fans like goal scorers. A lot of the praise I have got is down to my team mates. If it was not for them I would not be getting the taps-ins I would be getting!
“My goal against St Johnstone that won me the goal of the season award was my favourite goal. It was one of my few goals outside the six yard box! I was surprised to see I had another couple in there as contenders as well! There were quite a lot of good goals. I actually thought David Goodwillie’s overhead kick was decent and Niall has put one in against Partick Thistle with his left foot.
“It was another very good night. The player’s own awards seem to go down quite well with the fans which was nice. The Player of the Year dinner last year was very good after winning the League Cup. This year has also been very enjoyable and hopefully the events in the future are as good because it means we will have had another good season.
“Everyone is looking forward to getting the season finished with now. We have had a good season and we want to finish it strongly with three wins. It would be nice to add nine points before having a couple of weeks off so we can relax and recharge the batteries. It is important we have our rest because it will be another long season.
“Let’s hope we can have another good year and we are looking forward to the Europa League ties in July.”
