Energy Cities Community Cup | Aberdeen v Viking FK | Wednesday 4th Sept 2013 | Pittodrie Stadium | 7.00pm KO

Derek McInnes | “There is always a debate what you do during an International break. Obviously we have number of boys away on International duty at full level and with the U21s. We hope they all come back fit so we can have a full working week next week. For the other ones, we have had three demanding games last week including one that went to extra time so the players who have niggles it is a chance to get some rest and take advantage of the fact we don’t have a game this weekend.

“This game though is a good game in terms of players who have not had enough game time of late. It is also gives some of the younger boys who have been on the fringes of the squad a chance to play.

“Normally you would look to arrange some kind of game during an international break anyway. This one was already arranged before I came in but it is a decent game for us as we are playing against decent opposition.

“Supporters are always keen to see what is behind the first team and they will get an opportunity to do that tomorrow.

“We have watched a few of their (Viking FK) games. We are pretty clear on what shape they will play. We do not really know the individuals or personnel too much but we will do our homework on them in terms of set-pieces and position analysis.

“The fact the game is free will hopefully encourage people to come along especially the youngsters. Our community team have done a lot of work in visiting schools in the area to create some interest in the game. It is an opportunity for supporters to come and enjoy a game and enjoy watching some of our young players. It is also an opportunity to come along and see Andrew Considine in action. He has worked extremely hard to get back to a good level of fitness. He is ready to play now properly.”

Prior to the match on Wednesday night against Viking F.K we will be holding a minute’s silence to remember the four people who died in the helicopter crash last month.

After the teams line up to contest the Energy Communities Cup as part of Offshore Europe 2013, the players will lead the minutes silence to remember Duncan Munro, 46, of Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, George Allison, 57, of Winchester, Hants, Sarah Darnley, 45, of Elgin and Gary McCrossan, 59, of Inverness.

For many years our club and supporters have maintained strong links with the Oil and Gas sector.

Our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to all the family members, loved ones and friends who are grieving at this time.
