Dundee Post Match | The Manager | "a special night"

“You would never have expected that. “We came here hoping to pick up where we left off because I think the form has been good. We scored seven against Motherwell a couple of months so to replicate that is brilliant. “We have had a good spread of goals this season, but to have so many threats tonight and to carry that threat from the first minute was very pleasing. “To produce a performance that like that at this stage of the season, in terms of intensity, work rate, energy, it says so much for the team and how they manage their own careers and own focus.

Normally at this stage of the season you see a lot of tired teams and it is all about digging out results. But my team looked really confident. The hard work gave us a platform to go on and play and once you get McLean, McGinn, Hayes, Jack and Shinnie really enjoying the game it is hard to contain them.

“I ask them all the time, just go and play the way you train because I see that every day.

“And tonight was one of those night’s where we did play how we train. The person on the ball always had options. Even when they had people tight against them players trusted them with a pass. A fantastic performance. I am very pleased.

“Like in the Motherwell game there was some brilliant play. But we lost a couple of sloppy goals in that game so at half time we spoke about getting a clean sheet and its importance. We also said at half time the second half does not need to be as eventful as the first. But I thought it played out in a similar way and that is encouraging.

“It was great to have so many Aberdeen fans here tonight. We always take a good support down here and they gave us great backing. It was good to send them home happy. It just felt like a special night. And you know you have had a special night when Considine has scored a hat-trick!

“To be fair he should have scored four. He should have scored before he got his first one. He is a threat and the delivery was good. Especially Christie’s delivery for the last goal, that was brilliant. It was almost a perfect night for Andy and us after the crowd shouted for him to get a hat-trick.

“It was difficult for Dundee once our players started to enjoy it and once we really got on top of them. From my point of view, it is good to see the players never really let up. They enjoyed working hard and they enjoyed scoring goals tonight.

“I know there was talk about us being under a bit of pressure before this game but I did not see that. I just seen a confident team. It is another game chalked off and another three points. It is only three points despite the score line and now we look forward to Inverness on Tuesday.”
