Aberdeen suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Spartans in Edinburgh, a late Hannah Stewart penalty acting as a consolation.

There was just one change for the Dons from the side that lost to Hearts last weekend, with Nicola Jameison coming in for Emily Kraft.

Spartans almost made a dream start as Davies fired a strike that looked to be finding the top corner inside the first minute, but it thundered off the crossbar and came back out.

In the 12th minute a dangerous ball over the top was chased down by Jordan, but Finnie marshalled the ball back to Sidey who picked up on the edge of the box.

Aberdeen’s first chance came two minutes later. Innes picked up a loose pass as Spartans tried to play out from the back, but her shot was blocked out for a corner.

The Spartans took the lead shortly after. After an initial effort was blocked, Chomczuk was on hand two yards out to convert the rebound despite the best efforts of Noble on the line.

In the 19th minute McKenna’s header put Rennie through, but her attempted volley from outside the box was well wide.

McKenna was then put through on goal herself by Jordan. She took on the effort from the right side of the box but it went narrowly over.

25 minutes in Innes cut in from the right side and shot low from the edge of the box, the ball going just wide of the post.

The game was halted in the 36th minute after an injury to Madison Finnie. After lengthy treatment, she left the field and was replaced by Emily Kraft.

In the 43rd minute, McKenna’s low cross evaded everyone as Jordan looked to bounce on the six-yard line.

In added time at the end of the first half, McCafferty came running onto the ball at the edge of the box as a corner was half-cleared by Aberdeen, but her driving volley was well over.

Spatans got a second just before the break. Jordan took down a long ball on the left wing, found some space and crossed to Rennie in the middle, who had time to bring it down and slot the ball under Sidey.

Half time: Spartans 2-0 Aberdeen

The first chance of the second half fell to Aberdeen in the 52nd minute. Kraft broke up the middle and found Ogilvie on the right who crossed into the middle. It was headed away by Spartans but picked up by Thomson who fired an effort just over.

On the hour mark Davies’ cross from the right found Jordan on the six-yard line who poked an effort towards goal, but it was comfortably wide of the near post.

McCafferty had the ball in the net two minutes later, heading in from a free kick, but she was offside.

But Spartans did find a third in the 69th minute. A corner from the right side was met by Fraser, and her headed looped into the bottom right side of the goal.

Aberdeen had a chance to pull one back a minute later as Miller met Noble’s cross, but her effort was easily gathered by Yates

The Dons did pull one back in the 85th minute from a penalty. Stewart stepped up to take the spot kick after Miller was brought down in the box, slotting it low into the bottom right corner.

In the dying seconds Jameison headed a corner from the right onto the roof of the net, but Spartans saw out their win comfortably from there.
