Sunday 26th November 2023 | Celtic Women v Aberdeen Women | Excelsior Stadium | Scottish Power Women’s Premier League | Kick-off 12:00
Celtic 13 Aberdeen 0
Aberdeen suffered a brutal defeat at the hands of Celtic as they went down 13-0 on the road in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. The hosts led 6-0 at half-time and went on to add another seven in the second period as they totally dominated from start to finish.
Dons boss Clinton Lancaster went with the same starting line up that served him well last time out in the 2-1 win over Spartans. Young Keira MacPherson was named amongst the substitutes as she made the match day squad for the first time.
Celtic had the game’s first attempt on goal after five minutes when Amy Gallacher struck a free-kick from 25-yards out which was straight at Annalisa McCann. The hosts didn’t have long to wait until they broke the deadlock though.
There was 8 minutes on the clock when Paula Partido went down the right wing and cut back for Collette CAVANAGH to smash home the opener. It got even worse for the visitors a minute later as Celtic made it two. Partido was again the creator down the right flank and this time it was Murphy AGNEW in the middle to take advantage of the cross ball.
The home side had their tails up and McCann did well to block a Gallacher shot with her feet as the pressure grew. It was only a short reprieve for the Dons who went 3-0 down on 15 minutes. The danger came down the Aberdeen left again as a powerful run by Partido got her to the byline and her cross was flicked in at the front post by AGNEW.
It was 4-0 on 20 minutes as the visitor’s day went from bad to worse. This it was PARTIDO who got on the scoresheet as she headed home a Shen Mengyu corner. They made it five before the 30-minute mark when Cavanagh clipped in a cross from the left and Natalie ROSS headed beyond McCann.
A nightmare opening 45 for the visitors wasn’t over there as a Celtic corner from their right was diverted into the net by the head of Chloe CRAIG.

The Dons made a double change at the break with Innes and Ogilvie making way for Emma Lawson and Amelie Martindale.
Celtic were in no mood for resting on their first half lead and McCann had already saved from Gallacher early in the half before the hosts got their seventh. Gallacher’s shot caught Hannah Stewart full in the face and as the Aberdeen captain went down the ball rebounded to GALLACHER who knocked it into the net.
Eilidh Shore tried her luck with a speculative long-range lob as the visitors made a rare foray up front, but it wasn’t long before Celtic scored a quickfire double. ROSS got her second of the game as she curled the ball home the edge of the box before MURPHY completed her hattrick.
Darcie Miller replaced Eva Thomson as the Reds made their third change of the game on 76mins. Celtic added to their tally a short time later as GALLACHER hit the net again from close range. They scored again two minutes later as substitute Clare GOLDIE piled this misery on the away side.
Caitlin HAYES headed home from a corner as a painful afternoon got even worse for the visitors who looked like they were desperate for the game to end.
Aimee Black and Hannah Insch came on late in the game for Murray and Stewart. The referee added on six minutes if stoppage time at the end of the game which just felt cruel on the visitors. That gave Celtic time to add another with GALLACHER adding to her tally.
