Dundee 3-2 Aberdeen Sunday 17 May 2026 SPFL Premiership Dens Park Referee: Ross Hardie A last gasp Dundee goal saw the Dons slip to defeat and down to ninth place in the table in a game they had led at half-time. Aberdeen showed five changes from the side that were beaten by St Mirren on Tuesday, Per-Kristian Bratveit, Nicky Devlin, Mitchel Frame, Afeez Aremu all on the bench, Ante Palaversa missing from the squad. Nick Suman came in for his Aberdeen debut, with Lyall Cameron, Jack Milne, Kjartan Kjartansson and Topi Keskinen all starting, the Dons switching to a 4-3-3 formation. Academy graduate Jamie Mercer was among the subs for the first time. After losing 3-1 at Kilmarnock on Tuesday, there were also five changes for Dundee, Drey Wright, Charlie Reilly, Joe Westley, Cameron Congreve and Ethan Hamilton replacing Clark Robertson, Bradley Halliday, Joel Cotterill, Ashley Hay and Scott Wright. It was a bright and blustery day at Dens, the early exchanges of the game all a bit too frantic. The first constructive move of the game brought a goal for the hosts in the tenth minute. Congreve was away down the right and stood up a good cross to the back post. Reilly was up to head it back across the face, Wright beating Mats Knoester to the ball to tap in from a couple of yards out. To compound matters, Knoester took a whack in trying to prevent the goal and, after lengthy treatment, he had to be stretchered off and replaced by Devlin. Dundee were in the ascendant from there, Robertson drilling in a dangerous low shot in the 20th minute, Suman down well to his left to save. A Cameron free-kick on the right forced Westley to head behind in the 23rd minute. From the flag kick, Cameron floated the ball to the back post where Liam Morrison was standing all alone with all the time in the world to pick his spot and plant a header into the net for his first Aberdeen goal. Morrison was involved in a nasty clash of heads on the half hour, the physios coming on to tend to him with blood pouring from a wound above the eye. After half a dozen minutes of treatment, Morrison was bandaged up, passed the concussion test and took on a new shirt before finally being able to continue. Within a minute, he was producing a superb tackle in his own penalty area to underline that he was able to carry on. The Dons won another corner on the right in the 38th minute, the ball eventually finding its way to Dennis Geiger, but his shot from just outside the box flew over the bar. There were seven added minutes because of the injuries and in the third of them, Congreve had a clear sight of the Aberdeen goal but he blazed his effort well over the bar with the goal at his mercy. In the sixth added minute, it was the turn of the Dons as Toyosi Olusanya put his side in front. It was a period of pressure from Aberdeen that saw Koumetio clear from in front of Nisbet. The ball came out as far as Cameron who took a shot from 20 yards. It took a slight deflection on its way and following the ball in, Olusanya was onto it to stab into the net from inside the six-yard box. HALF-TIME: DUNDEE 1 ABERDEEN 2 It was a sedate opening to the second half, the first incident of note coming in the 52ndminute when Olusanya went down before carrying on. Keskinen exchanged passes with Olusanya five minutes later, but as the Finn let fly, Koumetio came across him to make an important block. Somewhat against the run of play, the hosts were level in the 61st minute. Congreve played the ball out to Reilly who sprinted through on goal. Suman came to meet him and made a good save, but the rebound fell nicely for Westley who clipped in the equaliser. There were changes on 68, Reilly replaced by Bevan for the home side. At the same time, the Dons withdrew Keskinen, Cameron and Geiger for Kenan Bilalovic, Nicolas Milanovic and Graeme Shinnie. Three minutes after coming on, Milanovic smeared a shot wide of the target from fully 25 yards out. Aremu was Aberdeen’s last switch in the 76th minute, coming on for Kjartansson. Dundee responded with changes of their own, Congreve, Hamilton and Westley replaced by Yogane, Murray and Cotterill. As all that was settling in, Shinnie tried one from distance that snuck just wide of the post. Suman had to be lively in the 82nd minute to get behind a fierce drive from Cotterill, a decent save from the debutant as the home side continued to probe. Dundee made their last change in the 88th minute, Samuels going off for Graham.
Dundee were pushing for the win, Milanovic making a good block from a Yonge shot on the edge of the area in the final minute of normal time. Robertson’s corner reached the back stick and Astley bulleted in a header from six yards to make it 3-2. Ultimately, it was a goal that the Dons have conceded too often this term, bringing the season to a disappointing conclusion.
