‘We have beaten a good team very convincingly in the end, I have got high regard for Hamilton as there is a lot to like about them. I thought the first half was a bit frantic and the game was a bit scrappy as neither team allowed the other to settle. We brought a bit of quality from the set play, Ash gets his head on it and that separates a scrappy first half. “We said at half time that the start of the second half might be similar and it was important that we played with our heads, played with discipline and played clever knowing that the opportunities may come to show our quality if the game settled down a wee bit. “McGinn scored his goal, it’s a fantastic finish and I’m delighted for him. His touch was good, he drove in with a bit of purpose and he had a look to see where the keeper and the finish was top quality. That sort of quality that he produces has separated it and put us 2-0 up and from then on in it was very comfortable. “You are never totally at home when you are only 2 goals up but it felt comfortable and then we got the third goal and passed up a few opportunities after that. “All in all, a 3-0 home win against Hamilton is a very good result for us as I think they are very good team and I am delighted with the response from the players. “We have had a lot of good performances of late, the two defeats that we have had in the Cup against Dundee and against Celtic we have lost two last minute goals where we could be guilty of a lack of concentration rather than a lack of performance. The performances have been giving us the opportunity to win games and today we managed to win it and now we move on to next Saturday and hopefully we can put in another performance that gives us a chance to win that one. “I think Ashton Taylor has shown a great maturity for someone so young and I think at times he has been unfairly criticised more than others in the team but he has always shown a good temperament and he has brought a level of performance. When he has been good he has been very good and today was no exception. His goal has got people talking about him but his actual performance defensively along with Mark Reynolds was excellent. “We said at press on Thursday that the four games we had in December were against teams in and around us, Hamilton were the first one up, Dundee United are next then we have got Kilmarnock and Inverness so it is an important time of year. This time last year I think we went on to win seven out of eight before we progressed in the semi-final so we know the importance of being strong at this time of the season. “The squad is stretched a wee bit, we have got a very young bench but we will hopefully have a couple of injured players back as the squad will be important to us over that period.”
