He is a pivotal player for the team and I think there is so much more still to come from him. His development will continue as part of a good Aberdeen team which, in itself, will enhance his chances of fulfilling all his potential. “I always felt that Ryan saw this was the place to be. “Naturally, I am very happy that Ryan Jack has committed his immediate future to us. He is a pivotal player for the team and I think there is so much more still to come from him. His development will continue as part of a good Aberdeen team which, in itself, will enhance his chances of fulfilling all his potential.

“I always felt that Ryan saw this was the place to be. We’ve spoken at length over the last six months or so with him and his agent and I always felt he saw the benefit of staying with us. So while as a manager you never allow yourself to be overly confident, I always felt we had a chance of keeping him. He took his time to make his decision but ultimately, he’s signed the deal we first put to him in December. The fact that we have him committed again for so long was great news for the club. Ryan knows he is with a club and a manager who really want to work with him.

“I am also very pleased Barry Robson has extended his stay here. I think he has shown a real desire and commitment to be at this club. When Barry first came, he signed for a level of salary below the level he was worth. He has shown nothing but a real appetite to play for Aberdeen since that day and that speaks volumes for him. He backs his ability – all good players need that – and I think he has a real competitive streak which you can’t put in to players. There is still a place for experience in this team, particularly as Russell retires, and Barry, along with Willo, have a responsibility to show the way in training every day.”
