“There’s not many tougher but equally, what a tie! We’ll have a strong support down there and Tynecastle always lends itself to a great atmosphere and it’ll be a great game for the players to look forward to. We play them at home in a fortnight and we’ve already won down there but I think both camps would recognise it’s two good teams on their day and it’ll be difficult but I think everyone at Hearts will be saying the same thing.”

The Pittodrie manager also paid tribute to the team that defeated Ross County 3-1 in the SPFL at the weekend. “County didn’t enjoy the second half and we’ve got to make sure we don’t allow the opposition to enjoy the game, especially at home. The second half has been the most convincing we’ve been for a wee while and that’s the team we want to see more often and it’s up to us all to try and take responsibility to get that, the supporters have their part to play.

“We’ve all got a responsibility to help the players and the players have a responsibility to meet the standards that we set at this club. Hopefully with us all pulling in the same direction, there will be a lot more of that to come over the course of the season.”

Skipper Ryan Jack, who has the missed the last two games with an ankle injury, could return for the weekend trip to Dens Park. “Ryan’s done a lot of work over the last couple of days and he’s more likely to have a chance to be involved on Saturday than Barry Robson, who hasn’t been able to get back on to the training pitch yet so he might be another week.”
