Brad Lyons was the player that met with the media ahead of Tuesday's trip to Brora Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup.

RedTV subscribers can watch the midfielder's press conference now.

A new era in Aberdeen

“It’s been absolutely brilliant. The changing room in there, the boys in there are absolutely top. I think the pre-season trip to Holland really helped us on the pitch and especially off the pitch. The way we mingled, playing games of Wolf, going golfing and stuff, it’s a really close-knit group in there."

“I think coming here was a no-brainer. It’s a massive club. You see the history of the club, the amount of trophies they’ve won. You see the players that have pulled on the shirt. When the gaffer came calling, when the club came calling, me and my agent rubbed our hands, it was a no-brainer."

Role within the squad

“Hopefully I can establish myself in the team first and foremost, and then it’s just my job to try and help the team win as many games as possible. Whether that’s playing different positions or whether that’s playing my main position, whatever it takes to win games, I’m there to do it."

Moving on from last season

“I’m new to the building, there’s a lot of new faces in there, but the boys from last year said that as well , this can’t happen again (last season). With how big the club is, it definitely can’t happen again.

“I think the standards we’re driving in pre-season, the standards we’re driving on the pitch, it won’t happen again. With the gaffer and the coaching staff, no stone is left unturned. The boys are prepared and we can’t wait to get going tomorrow night."

Brora Away

“I actually experienced Brora away last year for Kilmarnock. Our first game in the League Cup was away to Brora, so we know it’s a really tough test. They have a lot of good players and a bit of experience from players who’ve played league football. They’re obviously Highland League champions as well, so they do have quality and we need to treat them with the utmost respect.

“You’ve seen even at the weekend there were a few upsets, so we can’t let that happen to us."

Personal Ambitions

“On a personal note, it’s probably just to establish a position in the team first and foremost. You see how many quality players there are from last year and how many quality players the gaffer has brought in, so there’s obviously a lot of competition in the changing room for positions.

“If I can do that, then it’s just about helping the team win as many games as possible. With the stature of the club, we need to be winning trophies, so I’d love to get my hands on a trophy."

Hunting for goals

“Every pre-season, every off-season, I really sit down and reflect on the season beforehand.

"I think the last couple of years I’ve got myself into good positions but not quite got the goals that I really should have.

“When the gaffer brought me to the club, he saw me as that midfielder who can get forward and help the forward players get goals. So yeah, the one on Saturday was a really nice finish. Hopefully I haven’t peaked in pre-season and I can go and get a few in the competitive season.”
