The 12-month project, which will include the delivery of monthly learning and engagement events at Pittodrie, will create young ambassadors which will become the steering group representing the young people of the North East, identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement.

The programme will give people aged 14-24 years access to informal learning workshops from different departments within AFC, which will lead to work experience, two-way feedback and placements which will raise aspirations and identify potential future careers and the steps required to achieve this.

Upon completing the programme, the young participants will be more prepared for the world of work, will have increased their connectivity with older generations and more confidence in taking their next steps.

Announcing the funding, Maureen McGinn, Big Lottery Fund Scotland Chair, said, “Young Start helps Scotland's next generation unlock their talents through a wide range of activities.

“These are designed to engage and inspire young people, and ensure they have the best possible start in life.  This funding will make a positive difference and I wish Aberdeen FC Community Trust every success as it goes on to develop and expand its project for the benefit of young people in their local community.”

AFCCT Community Project Officer Dean McBain added, “We are delighted to have secured this funding and can't wait to get started with this exciting project.

“The Community Trust already work with a large number of young people in the community and this project will give us the chance to really focus on specific areas each individual is keen to gain experience in.”
