Aberdeen boss Barry Robson was satisfied with a dogged performance from his Dons that brought three vital points at McDiarmid Park this afternoon. RedTV subscribers can watch Barry’s post match reaction in the video above.
“I thought we were pretty much in control of the game. I didn’t feel they really threatened us until the latter stages of the game. They made life difficult for us in the last 10 minutes, as you would expect from the home side, but my message to the boys at half-time was ‘keep a clean sheet, you win the game’. We showed resilience, we kept a clean sheet and we won another away game, which we haven’t done too often at this club for quite a while.
“We’re at the stage of the season when the pitches are poor and where the need to get points is vital, and that overrides everything. St Johnstone is such a hard place to come, always has been, but our remit today was to come and get the win, however we got there. We’ve had boys away on international duty and that takes it out of them, we didn’t get Rama, Duk and Bojan back until late in the week, so today was about being effective even if we weren’t at our best.
“The important thing once we were ahead was not to do anything silly in the game. We knew they were dangerous from set plays, we spoke about that in the preparation for the game, but I felt we had control without maybe switching the ball enough or playing through them quickly enough. We could be better but we got the result, we keep working hard and we move on.
“We’ve built a bit of resilience in the group, and you need that before you can go and be a proper footballing team. We’ve started to do that, everybody sticks together and works hard for each other, everyone is going in the same direction. We’ve had some brilliant performances and some not so good ones, because you can’t do that every week, but the drive and determination is there and we are putting some results on the board.
“Kelle was outstanding and the two boys in front of him that we took in in January have done ever so well as well. They want to work hard and do whatever it takes to win games and that goes for the whole squad. Now we go onto the next game next weekend.”
