With five goals to his credit already in the SPFL Premiership this season, Pape Gueye is fast emerging as one the league’s top goal threats, his two goals seeing the Dons to another victory, this time against Motherwell. The Senegalese striker who was sent out on loan in February, is understandably thrilled with how things are going this time around.
“I feel so happy now, because it’s amazing, five games, five goals. But I just keep going, I know I can do better. I just keep training very hard, and then when I come on the pitch, I try to score goals.”
The loan spell at Kristiansund reunited him with Armund Skiri, a coach who had previously worked with him at Aalesund. It proved the tonic that Pape needed.
“I was with him together when I was with Aalesund, I was working with him a lot, even after training, so he knew my quality. So when he got the manager’s job in Kristiansund, he saw I didn’t have play time, he just called me to come play over there. He’s helped me a lot with playing time, then I can feel comfortable, and everything starts to come good for me.
“I went on loan to play, get my rhythm, so when I came back I felt comfortable. I knew if I went to Kristiansund and I get playing time, when I’m back in Aberdeen, I will come back stronger. I know my quality, so I am sure I would be able to play for Aberdeen again.
“If you don’t play you don’t get your rhythm, but once you start playing, then you can be on your way. I know what I can do, and now I’m back, I want to show that to the supporters. All the time I try to make the fans happy, so when I score a goal, I like to dance too. I have a lot of dances on my mind! I believe in myself, and we have a very strong team, where everyone helps each other. I believe this year we can have something special.”
