Aberdeen FC is proud to be a thriving, community driven football club who aim to have a positive impact far beyond the 90 minutes on the pitch
. We recognise our unique standing in the local community and appreciate the importance of giving something back as we actively engage with the local communities that support and sustain the club.
Here is a small taster of the recent activity that various representatives of the football club have undertaken this past fortnight in our efforts to interact with our local community.
On Wednesday 19th June AFC in the Community and Angus the Bull visited Riverbank Primary School as part of Health week. The Community team and Angus delivered a healthy lifestyle assembly which covered key messages on healthy eating, activity and fluid intake to the 272 children in attendance. The pupils also took on Angus at his famous dance off where they were successful in winning prizes for the school!
AFC in the Community welcomed Fikri Arslan from Ace of Blades FC to Pittodrie. AFC donated some new footballs, bibs and AFC strips to the Club to support the development of football in their community.
On Friday morning AFC held their latest Tesco Bank Festival in partnership with the Scottish FA in Northfield. Pupils from Manor Park Primary School and Quarryhill Primary School were in attendance. Well done to all players, teachers and coaches involved!
AFC were pleased to unveil their new Mobile Unit which will be used, not only to sell merchandise at selected pre-season friendlies, but also to showcase AFC and what we do at events around the City and Shire.
Jamie Langfield attended Newmachar Juvenile’s Trophy Day to help hand out the awards as well as sign some autographs for the kids.
Scott Vernon went along to Portlethen to unveil a new strip for Portlethen FC 2004. He answered some questions and signed autographs for those present.
The Scottish FA in partnership with McDonald’s are committed to growing capacity in local clubs. AFC in the Community Coaches are working with Westdyke Community Club to recruit new players and coaches, creating new teams. Working with Aberdeenshire Active Schools and the local feeder Primary Schools, 40 local Primary 1 pupils have been given the opportunity to join the Club, with 15 volunteers recruited as coaches and club helpers to support this activity. Week 5 consists of a coaching session delivered by AFC and Westdyke Coaches for the 40 children, and a Scottish FA Coach Education course for some of the new club volunteers.
