Here is a small taster of the recent activity that various representatives of the football club have undertaken this past fortnight in our efforts to interact with our local community.

On his recent trip to the Falkirk Football Community Foundation (FFFC), AFC’s Head of Community Ally Prockter was surprised to find a 4 year old Dons fan training within the Falkirk stadium. FFFC’s ‘mini bairns’ football programme provides training for 3 to 5 year olds, and happily participating in the group was Lewis Pettigrew, fully kitted out in his Aberdeen strip. 4 year old Lewis is an AFC season ticket holder, and sits in the South Stand with his grandfather Bruce Quirie.

Accompanying Lewis were his mum (Samantha) and sister (Olivia, aged 2). Samantha and her family now live in Falkirk, but due to original family ties in the Aberdeenshire area Bruce, Samantha and Lewis are ardent Aberdeen supporters. It is hoped Olivia will be added to AFC’s list of supporters soon.

After his hard training session, Lewis finished off an excellent day by watching his two favourites, Jamie Langfield and Johnny Hayes, help Aberdeen to win 5 – 0 against Falkirk.

Ally Prockter explained, “I was visiting FFFC to see their excellent community set up and to see if I could learn any lessons on behalf of AFC in the Community. I was absolutely delighted to see an AFC participant, and it was great to meet Lewis and his mum. It is fair to say we were all a bit surprised to bump into one another where we did. FFFC’s community work is very well organised and quite correctly attracts children to come and have fun no matter what team they support.”

On Thursday 3rd October Neil Simpson and Ally Prockter paid a visit to Inverurie Supporters Club to attend their monthly meeting. Neil and Ally spent time taking questions from the members of the supporters club and thoroughly enjoyed their evening meeting the fans.

Local youngsters from Seaton Primary School are being given the opportunity to dine like their favourite Dons player thanks to a new free football club being offered by Aberdeen FC.

More than 20 primary school children are being invited to take part in a weekly club from August 2013 to June 2014 at Pittodrie after it received funding from the Tartan Army Children’s Charity. The children from Seaton will receive an hour of free football coaching from the AFC in the Community team at Aberdeen Sports Village before making their way to Pittodrie to have their dinner in the Players canteen.

The youngsters had a couple of new faces at the dinner tables on Tuesday 1st October as Andrew Considine and Josh Magennis joined them for their evening meal.
