Here is a small taster of the recent activity that various representatives of the football club have undertaken this past fortnight in our efforts to interact with our local community.

On Tuesday 2nd April, Ally Prockter, Head of AFC in the Community, joined the leader of the Scottish Labour Party, Johann Lamont, and the Labour MSP, Lewis Macdonald, at the opening of a local Foodbank based within Seaton Community Hall, School Road, Aberdeen. The Seaton Project and other residents from the local area have worked hard to gather over 3 tonnes of food for distribution to those individuals who, for whatever reason, are struggling to afford food to feed themselves. AFC in the Community attended to offer their support to local residents and to assist in highlighting this issue.

AFC in the Community attended the Presentation at the culmination of the Aberdeen Sports Village Multi-Sports Camp. Aberdeen Sports Village and AFC in the Community work in partnership to deliver a number of projects in the local and wider community. Angus the Bull, Head of Community, Ally Prockter, and Senior Scottish FA Community Coach, Steven Sweeney, popped along to see the children in action and hand out a number of awards gained from the week.

AFC in the Community visited the Young Muslim Heroes Cup at Aberdeen Sports Village. The Tournament was arranged by Rahman Mukras from Aberdeen Mosque and AFC in the Community got in touch to support the event. Community Coaches Steven Sweeney, Scott Duncan, Stefan Laird, Liam Duncan and Lawrence McLelland joined Head of Community, Ally Prockter, in attending the event, gifting the Mosque footballs, bibs and AFC strips to help with the smooth running of the Tournament. Later that day, Ally Prockter attended the Awards Ceremony at Aberdeen Mosque, handing out Awards to everybody for participating and to the winners.

AFC Ambassadors Ally Shewan and Jimmy Wilson attended the second week of AFC’s Still Game, an SPL Trust initiative which promotes health and well-being for older people, and met the participants.

Several first team players – Mark Reynolds, Nicky Low, Stephen Hughes, Scott Vernon, Russell Anderson, Joe Shaughnessy and Clark Robertson – visited kids at the AFC Easter Holiday Programme during the second week which was held in Aberdeen Sports Village to chat to the kids and sign some autographs.
