Adam Rooney broke yet another record this afternoon as he became the first Dons player to get 20 goals in three consecutive seasons since Joe Harper 38 years ago (1976 to 1979). After the game he spoke to RedTV:

“I was aware of the record. A lot of people have made me aware of it recently so it was nice finally get there.

“I was delighted to get the goal. Another tap in!

“It also means we have taken a big step towards second spot as well.

“It was great for me personally and it tops off a great afternoon.

“I set myself targets at the start of every season. The first is to get to ten and then I try and get to 20 and then kick on from there. Hopefully it is not the end of the goals between now and the end of the season.

“I was sitting with Joey Harper at the AFC Player of the Year Dinner on Thursday night. He was hoping I would not get there! No only joking, he actually said that he fancied me to get it. I see him around the club a lot and he is always wishing me all the best. He is a legend of the club and a really nice guy.

“Hopefully I can go on and get a few more. I am still a long way off his overall total of 200 odd goals! To beat that I would need to include my training goals as well!

“It was good today that when we conceded we went on the front foot. If we had been a bit more clinical we could have been a few more goals ahead. Hearts got the goal and a lot of teams might have crumbled but we showed good character to come back. We showed what we have. It was a great header by Anthony to win the game and a great cross from Jonny.

“Graeme Shinnie was outstanding and typified the performance.

“I remember at one stage he closed down four different players before winning the ball back. You saw when their lad got sent off, there are not many players who have that burst of pace at that stage of a game. He has covered an incredible amount of ground. He has driven the team on. He set the tone when he presses like that and the whole team comes with him. I would not like to be a midfielder playing against him.

“We have not mathematical secured second spot but we have taken a bit step towards it. It would need some strange results for us to lose it now.

“It was an important win after the Rangers late comeback earlier on. It was vital we got the three points. Rangers win put pressure on us but we were always confident coming here we could get the win.

“We have always said that we wanted to improve on last year. We would have liked to have been a lot closer to Celtic than we have been this year but a lot of that is down to what Celtic have done this season and how good they have been. Our aim a couple of months back was the be the best of the rest and to keep second spot.

“A lot of the media had written us off with Rangers back in the league and Hearts improving. People were predicting we would fall away but we had the belief in the squad that we were capable of being a top team and we have shown that all season – two finals and second spot all but secured.

“We focus on ourselves. We know what we can do and we know the squad we have and the players and ability within that squad.

“We now turn our attention to the game on Friday night. It is a game we are looking forward to and there should be a good atmosphere.

“We will not sit back now (between now and the cup final). We will always go out and try and win every game regardless of the competition or the situation.”
