“It’s been a long week and a lot of travelling and it probably told because the energy levels weren’t quite what they should be.
“It’s only natural with the week we’ve had and we’ve played a lot of football and travelled a long way.
“The main thing today was to get the three points and that’s what we did. We made it hard for ourselves and we could have been out of site in the first half. Then when you’re not it gives them hope and they had opportunities where Joe’s pulled off some top saves as he always does.
“So all in all job done.
“I thought my cross was going in and I’m a bit disappointed Anthony’s touched it! I think it’s come off the back of his head, but it was a great header and hopefully he can score a few more like that throughout the season.
“I think when you join a new club you find that it takes a few weeks to get used to the place and get used to the players. I can bring assists and a few goals to the team as well as playing my part on the ball and off it. Any player wants to play and be a first team regular and that’s what I intend to do.
‘There’s plenty of options for the gaffer and its good for any team to have competition for places because it keeps everyone on their toes. It will stand us in good stead throughout the season to have a lot of players that can fill in and do various jobs.
‘We wanted to make a statement in the league with a win early and we’ve now got a cup match against Hamilton, which we know won’t be easy. I think the only way to deal with the disappointment of the European game was to bounce back on the pitch. It’s all about getting points on the board and that’s the only way to bounce back after a loss.
‘We care as players and it’s only natural that everyone was hurting after Thursday – we still are. As I say the only way to bounce back was to pick up three points up on the pitch.
“It is a new team really. There’s a lot of new players gelling to the squad and over the next couple of months I can see that definitely helping us when we get to know each other’s games. The signs early on is that it’s going to be good.
“Scott Wright is one of those players that excites every time he gets the ball. He has that youthful, fearless approach to it. He wants to get at people and cause defenders problems and I thought he was brilliant. We see it in training every day so his performance was no surprise to the lads.
“Every team has a different make-up to them and Hamilton certainly work hard for each other and put themselves about and that’s how they have done well recent seasons. It’s certainly no easy place to go when you go to Hamilton away. I experienced that as an Inverness player and I also remember watching the Aberdeen games their last season.
“But we as a team feel we have the ability in the squad to go anywhere and do well.
“You come to a club like this and you want to be involved in cup semi-finals and finals so both cups are massive. I’ve had some nice experiences and not so nice experiences in the cup. The year before we won the Scottish Cup at Inverness I had a not so nice experience losing to Aberdeen in the League Cup. I believe that pushed us on at the time to win the cup the following year. I am sure the experience of last season in the cup finals will push the boys on even more this season.
“When you come to a club like this you want to be part of big games and challenging for trophies.”
