Aberdeen Women ran out as comfortable 5-0 winners over a competitive Inverurie Locos side at Cormack Park on Wednesday night as they geared up for their first game of the league campaign, with just days to go until it all kicks off again.

The Dons went in just one nil up at the break, but a goal glut in the second half ensured they were comfortable victors in a game that if it featured better proficiency in front of goal, could have been even more commanding.

Colin Bell named two very different XI’s in each half at Cormack Park with both sides supplemented by the use of trialists as he accessed his options ahead of the league opener against Rangers. Natasha Bruce captained the side for the first half.

It was really a case of one-way traffic throughout as Aberdeen dominated, Eva Thomson the first to have an effort saved. Soon after Hannah Innes was on the end of Darcie Miller’s low cross, again no opening goal.

Miller met Bruce’s cross just before the half hour mark and went down in the process. Unable to continue, the Dons centre forward was replaced by one of the trialists on the Aberdeen bench.

With ten minutes in the half to go Innes did eventually open the scoring with a long-range strike that looped over Graham in the Inverurie goal and into the back of the net.

Half-time, Aberdeen Women 1-0 Inverurie Locos.

After making eight changes to the side at the interval it didn’t take long for the goals to start flowing, Francesca Ogilive grabbing a second to double her sides advantage with a low effort that was able to squeeze in at the near post.

Minutes later two-nil became three-nil, Jo Fraser on the end of a cross from close range to convert and hand her side a much more deserved and convincing lead in the friendly.

Nicola Jamieson looked to have scored from 30-yards after her long-range effort cannoned off the crossbar and back towards the line, the ball looked to have crossed but the score remained 3-0 to the Dons.

Chloe Gover, one of the few survivors from the half-time changes was eventually withdrawn just after the hour mark, Antonia Adams on in her place.

Ogilvie was at the double soon after, the winger able to apply another calm finish after receiving the ball and charging towards goal.

With the friendly petering out Aberdeen added a fifth goal at the death through one of the introduced trialists to wrap up the contest and make it good evenings work for the Dons.

The club wish Inverurie Locos all the best for the upcoming season.

Attention now fully diverts to the opening fixture of the 2024/25 campaign on Sunday 11th, when Rangers make the journey to the Balmoral Stadium, kick-off 16:10.

Full-time, Aberdeen 5-0 Inverurie Loco Works.
