Jim Goodwin reflected on the stalemate with Ross County after the game.

“It was a frustrating afternoon. We were in control, plenty of possession, got into good areas in the first half especially with McCrorie and Kennedy. Matty’s disappointed not to score with the chance he had in the first half but in saying that, it’s a brilliant block on the line from the Ross County defender.

“We needed that goal in the first half with the amount of possession we had and chances we created. Had we done that, their gameplan has to change and I think we could have picked them off better from there.

“They put an extra man in midfield to condense the space in the second half. We still tried to get at them out wide but we lacked a bit of quality on the final ball, the final cross. So it was frustrating, I’m not happy with the result, but I’m not overly disappointed with the performance, it was a good response from what happened at Kilmarnock.

“I thought there were some good performances out there, Ramadani was excellent, Kennedy was very positive, Duk was exciting and did well in the first half, defensively we coped with everything, Anthony Stewart showed his strength of character to come back and play well against White who is a handful, but at the other end, the crucial goal was missing and that was frustrating.

“We changed it up front and brought in Christian Ramirez, who is very good at dropping in and finding pockets of space and we also felt Duk could cause problems on the left if we could get him 1v1. Christian’s attitude has been spot on, he’s a good player but we weren’t able to get him any real opportunities today.

“Supporters are happy when you’re winning and when you’re not, they’ll let you know. I understand the fans being frustrated at the end of the game, and I understand them aiming them at me, that’s the game we’re in. Three months ago, I was getting pats on the back because we were winning every game and scoring freely here, now we’re not doing that and I take the criticism. I won’t panic. I believe in the players, the strategy of the club and the vision we have in terms of bringing through and recruiting young players. We’ve made progress over the last year, not as quickly as some people would like and I get that.

“We’ve been working hard in the build up to the transfer window. We have to make sure that we’re not standing still, that we come out of this window stronger than we went into it. If we have a fully fit squad we are strong but injury and illness means we can be light in one or two areas. The board has been brilliant, given me great backing, and that will continue.”
