An impressive second half display from Motherwell left an Aberdeen side suffering a heavy 6-0 midweek defeat.

It took just 47 seconds for the first opportunity of the game, when through ball to Laura Berry gave Motherwell the chance to grab an early opener. Megan Sidey was fortunately able to dive low, slapping the ball away before a shot could be placed.

In a first half that saw both sides try to play the ball to the attack, both goalkeepers were rarely troubled.

The match heated up towards the end of the half, with Black, Kraft and Gover receiving yellow cards from the referee.

Motherwell were able to get a couple of attempts on target in the opening stages and in the 50th minute grabbed the opener.

Having worked the ball from defence to attack, a low cross into the box was picked up by Sophie Black who slotted the ball past Sidey for 1-0.

A minute later and Paul Brownlie’s side picked up a penalty. Despite saving a spot kick against Hibs, Megan Sidey picked the wrong side, leaving Laura Berry to give the guests a second.

In the 58th minute Motherwell scored their third when the ball bounced towards Louisa Boyes on the left-hand side of the box. She found the space and hit her shot past Sidey to give Aberdeen a tougher challenge to get something from the game.

Former Don Bailley Collins had the chance to make it four 64 minutes into the match but saw her effort go wide of the post.

It didn’t take long for the fourth to arrive however, when Boyes grabbed her second of the match thanks to a lapse in concentration from the Aberdeen defence.

Aberdeen’s best opportunity came in the 76th minute when Hannah Innes played the ball to Kraft. The striker’s effort sadly went wide of the goal.

Motherwell grabbed their fifth in the 78th minute when a pass across the goalmouth was tapped in by sub Sienna McGoldrick.

The sixth goal was scored in the 89th minute when a looping cross was fired home by Louisa Boyes, securing her hat-trick.

Aberdeen travel to the capital on Sunday for a Sky Sports Cup quarter final clash with Boroughmuir Thistle.
