Jonny Hayes has signed a one-year contract extension and will remain at Pittodrie until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Signed in the summer of 2012 from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Jonny Hayes played a key role for the Dons for five positive seasons, where he formed an impressive forward line with Adam Rooney and Niall McGinn, winning the League Cup in 2014 before being sold to Celtic.

The 35-year-old former Republic of Ireland International winger re-joined the Club for a second spell in the summer of 2020. He has made 322 appearances for Aberdeen, scoring 37 goals.

Whilst also retaining his role as a coach within AFC Youth Academy, Jonny continues to be a proud supporter and ambassador for AFC Community Trust, using his position at the Club to become a role model for many youngsters who work with the Trust through its education and employability programming, as well as engaging in football and other activities.

Jonny still feels he has a lot to offer the team and is looking forward to being part of the squad for another season at Pittodrie.

He said: “From a personal point of view I still feel as good as I have for the last few years so I’m happy to secure another year at the club.

“The team is doing well at the moment and that’s the most important thing. The staff are working really hard behind the scenes, and I do believe if we keep moving in the right direction we can achieve a lot together.

“Every game is important, the expectation to win games is always there at Aberdeen. The players really believe that, and they want to deliver success for the supporters.”

Manager Barry Robson is pleased to see an influential senior player remain at the Club.

He added: “Jonny is a very experienced player who continues to look after himself and maintain his condition to enable him to continue to play at the highest level.

“Jonny is an integral part of the first team, and he is a fantastic role model for the younger players.

“He is an important senior member of the playing squad whose has been a great servant to AFC and his experience will be invaluable as we continue to strive to deliver success for this Club.”
