Former Don Returns to Pittodrie

Aberdeen FC is very pleased to confirm former captain Graeme Shinnie will be returning to Pittodrie on loan until the end of the season.

Graeme signed on a pre-contract agreement in January 2015 and officially joined Aberdeen in that summer from Inverness Caley Thistle. His combative and passionate displays in midfield led to Graeme being a firm favourite with the fans and he was appointed Club captain prior to the Scottish Cup Final in May 2017.

On 7th May 2019, it was announced he would be leaving the Dons to join Derby County after making 188 appearances for the Club. He was transferred to Wigan Athletic on 16th January 2022 on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

During his four-year spell at Pittodrie the 31-year-old played in three cup finals.

Given his experience and with his knowledge of the Club, manager Jim Goodwin is confident Graeme will be a positive addition to the squad.

He said: “Graeme is a player who knows the Club well, he is aware of the level of expectation here and despite being away from Pittodrie for a few years he obviously still has close connections with the place and a number of the staff.

“He has great leadership qualities and will bring a wealth of experience to the squad.

“We look forward to working with him in the coming months.”
