Read the thoughts of Emma Hunter as she looks ahead to Wednesday night’s game with Rangers at Pittodrie. The Dons go into the game after back to back 2-1 victories over Partick Thistle and Hamilton Accies.

Gavin Beith spoke to RedTV to preview the game at Pittodrie. Watch his interview by clicking here.

“It is amazing to say that we are playing at Pittodrie as we play our first game there on Wednesday night and we couldn’t have asked for a more difficult opponent.

“The players are really looking forward to the game as a lot of them are Aberdeen fans. For them to be able to step out onto the pitch at Pittodrie is amazing. To do so at this level is really important. The players are in SWPL 1 on merit and we are playing the top team at the moment in the league with the best players in my opinion. Hopefully we can go out and compete and give a good account of ourselves.

“The game being at Pittodrie will hopefully open us up to some different fans who might be coming along for the first time. It is a great opportunity to get new fans engaged and experience women’s football because it is different to the men’s game. I think most people who have come to our games this season have enjoyed it, despite the results not always being positive. You will see two teams that like to play good football and will be giving it their all.

“I have been involved in women’s football for so long now, since the age of four or five. It has been ingrained in me and I know the passion and how many people are interested in women’s football in the north of Scotland and we have a great history of success in women’s football in this area with the players that we have produced and we are all passionate about football in the city. So, it is no surprise that everyone wants to get behind us and that is a credit to the club and the fans.

“I know some people have been asking why it has taken so long to play at Pittodrie. For us as a club and a team we wanted to do it when we can showcase the best in women’s football and with SWPL 1 about to go into SPFL football, which will make things more professional, it means it is the perfect time to show what women’s football is about and the quality that is there.

“Rangers have a lot of support behind them and a lot of financial resources. They are a fantastic team to watch, they are full of international players and I think you want to see the best teams play. We just need to make sure we keep ourselves in the game and make it as entertaining as possible.

“The girls are so excited about the match. They are all buzzing. It will be hard having to leave a couple of players out of the squad due to our numbers, that is going to be a very tough decision to make. It is a massive moment, not just for the girls but for their family, their friends and girls and women involved in the game. I have had lots of messages about people wanting to come and support us and get behind the team. So this fixture, it has had an impact, not just on the players and coaches but on the city.

“Enjoy the game, back the team and we will do our all to make you all proud.”
