Aberdeen FC this evening confirms Niall McGinn has left the Club.

The 34-year-old, who joined the Dons in the summer of 2012, has departed Pittodrie after having his contract cancelled.

Signed by Craig Brown ten years ago this summer, the Northern Ireland International has gone on to become an Aberdeen great.

Over the past decade the winger had brought plenty of assists as well as a supply of goals, many of them memorable. In season 2012-2013, his first campaign, he became the first Aberdeen player in many years to break the 20 goals in a season barrier. He would then become a regular and key player for the Dons and was part of the side that lifted the League Cup in 2014.

Niall left Pittodrie at the end of season 2016-17 and signed for South Korean club Gwangju but returned to the north-east of Scotland in January 2018.

Speaking of his departure, Manager Stephen Glass, said: “Niall has been an outstanding servant to the Club during his two spells here at Pittodrie.

“He is now at an important stage of his career where he wants the opportunity to play every week and unfortunately, we are not in a position to offer him that at the moment.

“I’ve no doubt Niall’s determination will prove him a success at his next Club, and he goes with our very best wishes.”

In total Niall made 358 appearances, of which 299 were starts. He also scored 87 goals which means he is in 15th position on the all-time AFC appearance list and 19th in the AFC goal charts.

Everyone at AFC would like to thank Niall for the memories and wish him all the very best in his future career.
