England Youth Internationalist joins on loan

Aberdeen Football Club has this afternoon agreed a deal for Matty Longstaff.

The dynamic 21-year-old midfielder will join the Club on a season-long loan from English Premiership side, Newcastle United, subject to international clearance.

The highly thought of player made his debut for Newcastle United in August 2019 and scored a memorable goal against Manchester United later that season, earning him the Premier League ‘Goal of Month’ accolade.

Matty earned his first international call up to the England under 20 side in November 2019 and following the expiration of contract, signed a new two-year deal with Newcastle United in the summer of 2020.

Manager Stephen Glass is pleased to be adding a young talent to the group, someone who he believes will make the squad stronger.

“For a young player, Matty has already played in a good number of high-profile games for a top Club, against some of the biggest teams in England. We believe he is going to continue to make good progress here with us.

“We are pleased he has chosen Aberdeen to help him further his career, particularly as he had other high- profile options in England to consider.

“We’ve no doubt he will have a positive impact and will help us with the rest of our campaign.”
