Aberdeen FC confirms Scott McKenna has completed a move to English Championship side, Nottingham Forest, for a club record fee.

The AFC youth academy graduate has spent eight seasons as a full time professional at the Club and leaves having made 118 appearances for the first team.

The central defender, who scored five goals for the Dons, made his full international Scotland debut in March 2018 against Costa Rica at Hampden and has gone on to make 16 appearances so far for his country.

Whilst the fee cannot be disclosed, the deal presented to the Club was a significant one, and one which aligns with our strategy to develop our young talented assets to continue our investment in the first team squad and youth academy.

Manager, Derek McInnes said: “Scott is clearly a player who has approached his career to date in the correct manner and quite rightly, he has now got his reward.

“We have had the benefit of this in our first team and whilst from a football perspective it is sore to lose a player of his quality, we felt this was the right time for Scott to move on. He has had a real football education at our Club and he always approaches his work in a correct and professional manner. Scott is exactly the type of player and person we strive to develop at Aberdeen and is the ideal role model for other young players.

“Like any of the players that leave we always keep an eye on their progress with a sense of pride and I’ve not doubt he will go on to have a great career.”

Everyone at AFC would like to thank Scott for his efforts during his time with the Club and wish him all the very best in his future career.
